FAQ

everything you need to know before arriving at Broad Street Kickboxing

Do I Need any experience to get started?

No! Although a sports background can help you with general coordination, our classes are designed to teach the beginner all the athletic aspects needed to perform at an advanced level. Simply put -- we welcome athletes of all experience levels and our coaches are trained to make adjustments so that everyone can participate no matter your athletic ability or limitations.

What type of equipment do I need?

Broad Street Kickboxing teaches full contact ring sports such as Muay Thai, Dutch-style Kickboxing and MMA Boxing as well as competition grappling arts such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a safe environment. To achieve this, students are expected to purchase all necessary safety equipment after their 14-Day Free Trial concludes.

For Striking arts such as Muay Thai, Kickboxing and MMA, students will need 16-oz boxing gloves, shield style shin pads, a mouthpiece and a groin protector/cup. For MMA, students also need a pair of 7-oz MMA Training Gloves - no 4-oz competition gloves will be permitted. Shorts without pockets and a reasonably fitting top are expected as well. No students will be permitted to train shirtless.

For Grappling arts such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, students are expected to have a traditional kimono, known as a Gi, and an appropriate colored belt. Students are permitted to wear rashguard undershirts for hygiene purposes although it is not required.

For No Gi Jiu Jitsu and MMA classes, students are asked to wear form fitting shirts and shorts without pockets.
All requirements are made for safety reasons. Students are able to wear whichever colors and brands they choose.

Loaner equipment is available for Trial students.

about our classes

01.

What is a class like?

Classes are between 45 minutes and 2 hours long depending on the martial art or experience level required of the class. Classes are designed to give a full body workout while learning championship level striking and grappling skills. Depending on the martial art, classes employ a combination of high intensity interval training, kickboxing padwork, grappling drills, body weight exercise and live sparring.
No class is ever the same and each workout is structured to cause muscle confusion, guaranteeing the greatest results in the shortest amount of time.

02.

I think I'm too old to start training. Is there an age limit?

Many of our students are surprised when martial arts makes them feel younger. Many world champions are competing into their late 40s at the absolute highest levels. This means one thing: There is never an age that is too old to begin training. Our classes will help you lose extra weight while building muscle, making it much easier to live your daily life. Your cardio will improve tremendously, making you question what made you wait so long to get started.

03.
